TRIP ESSENTIALS
Overview
This 3-day adventure is a complete circle around Issyk-Kul, the second-largest alpine lake in the world. You will see the contrast between the dry, red canyons of the South Shore and the lush, green forests of the North. The tour combines history at the Burana Tower, nomadic traditions with eagle hunters, and the unique architecture of Karakol. It is a perfect route for those who want to see the main highlights of Kyrgyzstan with professional comfort.
Day 1. Bishkek – Burana Tower – Kok-Moynok – Bokonbaevo
We start from Bishkek and drive east to the Burana Tower. You will visit the small museum, see the petroglyphs (ancient rock drawings), and climb to the top of the 11th-century minaret. Next, we enter the Boom Gorge to visit Kok-Moynok Canyon. We leave the car and hike for 1 hour inside the winding clay “labyrinth” where the walls reach 20 meters high. After lunch, we drive along the South Shore of Issyk-Kul to Bokonbaevo village. We will visit the home of a local eagle hunter (berkutchi). He will show you the eagle’s equipment, explain how they hunt in winter, and let you hold the bird for photos.

Special information
Today involves approximately 5 hours of driving (290 km). The walk in Kok-Moynok is about 2.5 km on flat, sandy ground. In Bokonbaevo, yurt camps are located near the shore, but please note that some camps have shared bathroom facilities.
Day 2. Bokonbaevo – Skazka Canyon – Barskoon Gorge – Jeti-Oguz – Karakol
After breakfast, we drive to Skazka Canyon. We will walk between the red rock formations to a high point to see the view of the lake. Next, we drive into the Barskoon Gorge. We will hike to see two different waterfalls and stop at the monuments in the forest. Afterward, we go to Jeti-Oguz to see the famous red rocks and the mountain shaped like a heart. We will walk up a small hill for a better view of the valley. The day ends in Karakol city, where we have dinner and stay for the night.

Today involves significant travel time with multiple scenic stops 4.5 hours (220 km).
Day 3. Karakol – North Shore – Grigorievka & Semenovka – Bishkek
We spend the morning exploring Karakol’s history. We visit the Holy Trinity Orthodox Cathedral (built of wood in 1895) and the Dungan Mosque (built in 1910 by Chinese Muslims)After that, we drive along the North Shore. We turn into the mountains to visit the twin gorges of Grigorievka and Semenovka. We will drive through the forest, stop by the mountain river, and see the high-altitude pastures where nomads set up their summer yurts. After a scenic lunch in the gorge, we return to the main road and drive back to Bishkek. We will drop you off at your hotel or the airport.

Special information
Today involves approximately 7 to 8 hours of driving (420 km). This is the longest day, mostly on a paved highway. We spend about 2 hours inside the Grigorievka and Semenovka valleys. Expected arrival in Bishkek is around 19:30.
