TRIP ESSENTIALS
Overview
This journey is designed for those who want to reach the most remote and wild corners of Kyrgyzstan. From two nights under the stars at Song-Kul Lake to the “hidden” glacial waters of Kel-Suu near the Chinese border, this route covers it all. You will cross high mountain passes, stay in traditional yurt camps, and see the raw beauty of the Tian-Shan mountains from a powerful 4×4 vehicle, ending the trip on the warm shores of Issyk-Kul.
Day 1. Bishkek — Burana Tower — Song-Kul Lake
Our journey begins with a departure from Bishkek toward the Chuy Valley. Our first stop is the Burana Tower, an 11th-century UNESCO-protected minaret. You can climb the narrow, dark spiral stairs to the top for a panoramic view of the valley and explore the nearby “balbals”—ancient stone warrior carvings.
After a local lunch, we begin our ascent to Song-Kul Lake (3,016m) via the Kalmak-Ashuu pass (3,446m). As the asphalt ends, we enter the world of the nomad. Song-Kul is a vast alpine lake surrounded by lush pastures where Kyrgyz shepherds spend their summers. Upon arrival, we will settle into a yurt camp, enjoy a traditional dinner, and experience the silence of the high mountains.

Special Information
Today involves approximately 6 hours of driving (280 km) via the Kalmak-Ashuu Pass (3,446 m). Due to the high altitude, it can be quite cold in the evenings, so please have your warm clothes ready. At the lake, experience a true disconnect: there is no mobile signal and electricity is limited, so ensure your power banks are fully charged. Facilities tonight are basic, with shared outdoor bathrooms and no showers.
Day 2. Song-Kul Lake
A “free day” at the lake to fully immerse yourself in nomadic life. You can watch shepherds milking mares, hike to the nearby hills for a panoramic view of the lake, or try horse riding along the shore. This day is crucial for acclimatization before we head to even higher altitudes.

Special information
This is a slow-paced day. Physical activity includes optional hiking or a 2–3 hour horseback ride (10–15 km). Total disconnection from the internet and electricity continues
Day 3. Song-Kul — 33 Parrots Pass — Kok-Kiya Valley
After a sunrise breakfast, we depart Song-Kul via the spectacular Terskey-Torpok Pass, popularly known as the “33 Parrots Pass” due to its 33 dramatic hairpin turns. The descent offers some of the most famous photography spots in Kyrgyzstan. We then pass through Naryn, the last major town before the border, to refuel and grab supplies. Our journey continues into the remote At-Bashy region toward the Kok-Kiya Valley. The landscape shifts from green pastures to a harsh, lunar-like terrain of jagged cliffs and deep canyons. We will reach a remote guesthouse near the border zone by evening.

Special information
Today involves 6-7 hours of off-road driving (260 km). We are entering a restricted military zone, so please ensure your original passport is in your daypack and ready for inspection at checkpoints. Tonight’s accommodation is remote and basic, reflecting the isolated nature of the region
Day 4. Kel-Suu Lake — Naryn City
Today we explore the “Hidden Lake,” Kel-Suu (3,514m). This glacial lake is tucked into a massive limestone crevice. To reach the lake, we will go on horseback, as the valley floor is often marshy and difficult for vehicles or hiking. Kel-Suu is known as the “disappearing lake”—it can drain entirely through underground caves, leaving a mystical empty canyon, or be a vibrant turquoise. If the water level is high, we can arrange a motorboat to take you deep into the canyon between 500-meter-high cliffs. After exploring, we ride back to the camp and begin the drive back to Naryn for a well-deserved night in a comfortable guesthouse.

Special information
Today involves a 4-hour excursion (horse ride) to the lake shore, followed by a 4-hour drive (160 km) back to Naryn. The return to Naryn provides the first opportunity for a hot shower and stable Wi-Fi in two days
Day 5. Naryn — Skazka Canyon — Bokonbaevo
We head toward the South Shore of Issyk-Kul Lake. Our first stop is Skazka (Fairy Tale) Canyon, a unique place filled with colorful red rocks and sand formations that look like giant castles. It is one of the best spots for a short walk and amazing photos. Afterward, we continue to Bokonbaevo, where you will meet a Berkutchi (Eagle Hunter) for a private demonstration of this ancient nomadic hunting art. We will finish the day by settling into a cozy guesthouse for a home-cooked dinner.

Special information
Today involves approximately 5 hours of driving (240 km). This evening provides full comfort with access to a hot shower, electricity, and stable Wi-
Fi after your time in the remote mountains.
Day 6. Bokonbaevo — Ak-Say Canyon — Bishkek City Tour
Our final day starts with a short hike in Ak-Say Canyon. This place looks like a desert with sharp rocks and offers a great view of the blue Issyk-Kul Lake. After the walk, we drive through the Boom Gorge back to the capital. In Bishkek, we will visit the main spots: Ala-Too Square and the famous Osh Bazaar, where you can buy local snacks and souvenirs before the end of the trip.

Special Information
Today involves approximately 4–5 hours of driving (270 km)
